This is a chemical reaction between potassium chlorate and sugar (gummy bear). The potassium chlorate is melted to a liquid which then reacts with the gummy bear. The potassium chlorate is oxidized, releasing oxygen gas, which creates the extremely bright and hot reaction. Warning: these demos are to for teachers to perform only! |

That's pretty cool. I wish I could do that kind of stuff at home. I always love doing homemade experiments, like the traditional baking soda and vinager. It's so fun.
Gummy bears are for eating, not melting into some weird liquid!!!

The poor gummy bear! I agree with Loren. Gummy bears are meant to be eaten not to be mixed with strange liquids. It was pretty funny though.
