If Mauna Kea's height (13796') is measured from its base (18,000 feet below sea level), it surpasses even Mount Everest, and is the world's highest mountain (31,796). Geologic evidence suggests that the volcano last erupted around 1650. Legend says Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa were the domains of two opposing goddesses, Poliahu and Pele respectively. That is very cool that something can be that tall.When did they find out that it was taller than Mt. Everest because was always told that Mt.Everest was the tallest Mountain? Also, do they know how tall it actually is?

i had no idea that there could be anything on this earth that is bigger than mt. everest. when i was in first grade, we visited a mountain in swizterland called Jung Frau. i absolutely hated it! i have quite an acrophobia, and goin up that high was awful for me! if i thought that was bad, i cant imagine how bad going up somthing thats a million times higher!
